Shrove Tuesday, so tonight was pancake cooking. It’s only the second time I’ve tired to whisk, flip, and eat since living in the flat, but last year’s were a success, so I thought I’d have another go. And, to get in some practice for Saturday’s pancake party. So, Delia’s recipe was dusted off, the mixture made, and my best non-stick frying pan warmed. The results were enjoyable, with lemon and sugar added to taste, although more technique is needed for the flipping.
The only non-success of the evening was the burning of a hole in one of my tea towels. After mopping up the mixture jug, I forgot myself and laid the offending cloth on top of the very hot hob ring.
As you can see, the result speaks for itself: a smoky smell, a holey and charred tea towel, and I think, my first kitchen calamity.
