In a change from my Eurovision favourite being posted on the night of the contest proper, I’m highlighting the Montenegro entry Just Get Out of My Life ahead of the first semi-final tomorrow night. Andrea Demirovic opens the show, and that alone could hamper her chances, as the judging panel and public forget what her song sounds like as the night draws to a close and choices have to be made.
They shouldn’t, though. A fully-charged corker of a pop tune with a searing chorus and memorable melody, it deserves to do well. It’s been going around my head for days now, and won’t win, but it’s clear from the all the neon pink, sparkly background, attractive man in ‘70s sports gear ingredients in the video, which market the song is aimed at.
And that’s no bad thing. Video aside, the song stands up for itself and doesn’t need the visuals to make a lasting impression. Which is just as well. Watching the rehearsals online yesterday, Demirovic has a pared-down stage show, which might not be enough. Maybe not a case of Just Get Out of My Life, the lacklustre performance may make the judges and voting public wish Demirovic would just get off the stage…
